‘The Boys’ Showrunner Eric Kripke Reveals Early Test Screening Reactions to ‘Vought Rising’
Eric Kripke has shared new comments about the upcoming The Boys spin-off series Vought Rising, giving an early sense of how audiences are responding to it and how the project is being shaped before release.
Speaking in recent interviews, Kripke explained that early test screenings were conducted with viewers who had never watched The Boys.
According to him, the response was positive even without prior knowledge of the main series. “We just did some audience tests with people who had never seen ‘The Boys’, and they liked ‘Vought Rising’ on its own. So, that’s definitely the goal.” This comment was reported from his interview with Polygon and other press outlets.
The Boys itself is set to conclude with its fifth season, but Prime Video is continuing to expand the universe with new projects. Vought Rising is one of the major upcoming prequels, focusing on Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, and Stormfront, played by Aya Cash. The series is planned for release in 2027 and is expected to explore the early history of Vought and its influence.
Kripke also spoke about the structure of the new series and what could come after it. He noted that while the story has a clear ending, it also leaves space for more.
“It has a season-wide story that has a satisfying ending, but then it definitely opens a door into a new adventure and a new world, and we would love to keep it going,” he said. He added that any continuation would depend on studio decisions, saying, “That is up to the powers that be.”
He also touched on other spin-offs in the universe, including Gen V, suggesting that more stories from that corner of the world are still possible, even if they continue in a different format.
Actor Jensen Ackles, who returns as Soldier Boy in Vought Rising, has also indicated that the project is designed with multiple seasons in mind. He explained that when the idea was first pitched, it already had long-term plans built in, with a setting that goes back to the 1950s.
The series will also include a wider cast, with Elizabeth Posey, Will Hochman, Mason Dye, Jorden Myrie, Nicolò Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, Brian J. Smith, and KiKi Layne joining Ackles and Cash.
With The Boys heading toward its finale and Vought Rising moving into production, the franchise is clearly planning to stay active beyond its main series, building out its world through prequels and spin-offs that can stand on their own.
