There’s been a lot going on inside the walls of DC Studios in the last few months. The studio is doing a massive overhaul of its mainstream cinematic universe. But if you are a fan of recent independent DC projects such as ‘Joker’ and ‘The Batman’ movie, don’t worry; sequels are coming for them as well. Apart from the upcoming sequel, Matt Reeves’ Batverse will also spawn a spin-off limited series ‘The Penguin.’

Colin Farrell debuted in ‘The Batman’ as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, better known as the crime lord and one of Caped Crusader’s most known enemies — The Penguin. Matt Reeves’ movie depicted the Penguin as Carmine Falcone’s chief lieutenant who operates the Iceberg Lounge nightclub. This incarnation of the Penguin still isn’t a notorious crime lord as he’s usually depicted in the source material, but the upcoming spin-off series will show us Cobblepot’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld.

‘The Penguin’ won’t be suitable for all audiences!

‘The Penguin’ is in development for Warner Bros. Discovery’s official streaming service known as Max (previously known as HBOMax). The series has been announced to premiere in 2024, even though the production has recently been paused due to the ongoing WGA strike. This isn’t the first time it’s been paused, but this time it’s said that the production won’t continue until the strike is resolved.

Still, according to Max’s official page for the upcoming series, the premiere date is still set for 2024, and additionally, the official rating of the series is listed as TV-MA. TV-MA is TV programming’s equivalent for the movie’s R rating, which means the upcoming series will be suitable only for mature audiences. The majority of the most-known shows that were developed for HBO and Max are rated TV-MA, including ‘Peacemaker,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Chernobyl,’ ‘Succession,’ ‘The Idol,’ etc.
