A new image of Spider-Man squaring off against Scorpion in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has landed online, and the hype surrounding Tom Holland’s next solo outing has shot up another notch.

The image shows Peter Parker mid-battle with the armored villain in what appears to be a snow-covered rooftop setting, and the scale of the confrontation already looks genuinely cinematic.

Michael Mando’s transformation into the Scorpion was teased as far back as 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ when his character Mac Gargan vowed revenge on Spider-Man after being sent to prison, only to then vanish entirely from the MCU for nearly a decade. That long wait has made his debut in the Scorpion suit one of the most anticipated moments in this chapter of Marvel’s wall-crawler saga.

Gargan’s full armored look, which features a green mechanical suit complete with a functional tail and helmet, was first teased through Hasbro action figure reveals earlier this year, though the on-screen design seen in more recent promotional materials appears noticeably more refined. The suit design has generated fan debate, with some pointing out that the tail design in different images appears to differ, sparking speculation about whether Gargan receives suit upgrades during the film itself.

Scorpion is far from the only threat Spidey has to contend with. At least four villains have been confirmed to appear so far, including Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, and Tombstone, with rumors suggesting The Hand, Ramrod, and 8-Ball could also factor into the story. Reports indicate many of these characters will appear in an opening montage designed to establish what Peter has been up to since the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

The film is set four years after Doctor Strange’s memory spell, with Peter Parker anonymously protecting New York while his powers begin an unexpected and potentially dangerous evolution. That mutation storyline has been one of the most talked-about elements of the marketing, raising questions about whether the film might lean into darker, more feral aspects of the character.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and Tramell Tillman, with the script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers alongside Justin Kuritzkes. The film runs at 150 minutes, making it one of the longest entries in the Spider-Man franchise, and it is set to open in theaters on July 31.

With the second official trailer already live and tickets now on sale, the momentum behind this film is building fast. After nearly five years and a full multiversal saga in between, watching Scorpion finally get his due on the big screen looks like it is going to be worth the wait.
