‘Loki’: Here’s Why Timely Gave the Flower to Ravonna & What It Means

In episode 3 of ‘Loki’ season 2, we witnessed the return of He Who Remains, now in the guise of Victor Timely, last seen in the post-credit scene of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’ Notably, Timely established a connection with Ravonna Renslayer, who was eager to win him over for her own reasons. Timely even presented Ravonna with a paper flower. So, what significance does this flower hold in their dynamic?

Timely liked Ravonna ever since he landed his eyes on her

The early and middle segments of ‘Loki’ season 2 delved into how Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes had a tangible impact on the TVA’s history. They executed a backup plan for the return of He Who Remains, influencing a young Kang variant’s life in Chicago. Ravonna shaped his destiny by providing a copy of the TVA guidebook written by Ouroboros.

Later, Loki and Mobius traveled to the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893, believing it to be the key to finding Ravonna. To their surprise, they encountered Victor Timely, swiftly recognized by Loki as the man he knew as He Who Remains. They attempted to enlist Timely’s help in fixing the Temporal Loom with his Temporal Aura.

However, a chaotic situation ensued. Ravonna and Minutes wanted Timely to join them in their plans, while Sylvie emerged, aiming to thwart Timely to protect her freedom.

Ultimately, Timely sided with Ravonna and Minutes. Timely saw Ravonna as a trustworthy ally, especially after learning she was from the TVA. During their journey to Timely’s lab, he gave Ravonna a paper flower, expressing gratitude for her role in his becoming a genius inventor. Timely harbored affection for Ravonna, consistent with the tendency of Kang variants developing romantic feelings for Ravonna variants.

Ravonna was optimistic about a future partnership with Victor Timely, especially since the contingency plan involved transforming him into He Who Remains. She spoke of looking forward to their “partnership.”

However, after Timely and Minutes dropped Ravonna’s boat into the lake, it became evident that Timely had no intention of a true partnership. Neither he nor Minutes considered allowing Ravonna to work with them as an equal.

Why did Timely give a paper flower to Ravonna?

While Timely’s attraction to Ravonna was apparent, symbolized by the paper flower he gave her, the affections were not genuine. The choice of a paper flower, delicate and more fragile than real flowers, served as a metaphor for the fragile nature of Timely and Ravonna’s relationship. This fragility was emphasized when Ravonna returned to confront Timely, threatening to prune him if he didn’t comply.

The paper flower encapsulated the story of a relationship devoid of genuineness, built on mutual advantages. Ravonna sought Timely to become He Who Remains, forming a partnership, but Timely was unwilling to share equal power with her. He saw himself as intellectually superior, a Kang variant with aspirations of ultimate power.

Despite Timely’s initial resistance, Sylvie believed he could still be a good person, different from other Variants. However, the paper flower showed that Timely’s megalomaniacal tendencies, typical of Kang variants, could resurface at any moment. It hinted at the fact that he never truly envisioned sharing power with Ravonna, revealing the underlying dynamics of their relationship
