When Does ‘Secret Invasion’ Take Place in the MCU Timeline?

The different phases of the MCU have all been quite confusing since the end of Phase Three. That’s because not many of the different movies and shows released since the start of Phase Four are connected to one another, which makes the entire timeline confusing, especially when we consider that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ skipped five whole years. As such, the placement of ‘Secret Invasion,’ which is the MCU’s newest series, isn’t clear to many people. So, when does ‘Secret Invasion‘ take place in the MCU timeline?

‘Secret Invasion’ most likely takes place in the middle of 2025 and just right after the events of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ which both take place in 2024 and early 2025. As such, ‘Secret Invasion’ takes place in the present-day MCU and just before ‘The Marvels.’

Considering that Phase Five is already well underway, we know for certain that the current events of the MCU projects will be connected to one another, especially considering that a big crossover event will happen in the upcoming phases. That goes double for ‘Secret Invasion,’ which will probably have an event that will directly affect the events of the other movies and series moving forward. Now, let’s talk more about this topic.

‘Secret Invasion’ is likely set in 2025

The next big thing in the storyline of the MCU has just been released. ‘Secret Invasion’ is one of the most anticipated storylines in the MCU because of how important this event was in the comics. Although we know that the MCU counterpart of ‘Secret Invasion’ won’t be as big as the one in the comic books, this is one of the darkest MCU projects we’ve seen in recent memory because the jokes and the family-friendly scenes are gone.

‘Secret Invasion’ follows Nick Fury’s quest to bring down a group of Skrull rebels trying to take the entire planet and make it the Skrull home that the Skrulls always wanted. Because of his relationship with the Skrulls, Fury feels like this is a personal mission he must undertake. And it is possible that the events of ‘Secret Invasion’ will affect the storyline of the MCU moving forward.

We know that all of the MCU movies and series are connected to one another in a single timeline, even though the events of some of these projects may not be directly connected to one another. But some clues point to the possibility that ‘Secret Invasion’ is a storyline that takes place in the most recent timeline of the MCU.

The first clue we can look at is the cameo appearance of Agent Everett Ross in the opening scene of episode 1 of ‘Secret Invasion.’ We last saw Ross in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ when he secretly corresponded with the Wakandans regarding the Talokanil and the different things they were doing in different places around the world. But when the CIA discovered what Ross was doing, they arrested him, only for the Wakandans to eventually break him out and possibly bring him back to Wakanda with them.

Of course, the Ross we saw in the opening scene of ‘Secret Invasion’ was not the original one. This was a Skrull impersonating the real one, who is most likely with the Wakandans. And we all know that the events of ‘Wakanda Forever’ happened before ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ which took place in the latter part of 2024 up to early 2025.

So, considering that ‘Secret Invasion’ takes place after ‘Wakanda Forever’ and ‘She-Hulk,’ there’s a good chance that it takes place during the middle portion of 2025. That means this is the latest storyline in the larger timeline of the MCU. And this could also mean that some of the events of the future MCU projects will be affected by the outcome of the secret war between Nick Fury and the Skrull rebels in ‘Secret Invasion.’

‘Secret Invasion’ happens before ‘The Marvels’

One of the things that we learned in the pilot episode of ‘Secret Invasion’ was that Nick Fury had been away from the planet ever since he came back from the Blip. This means that this was the very first true appearance of Fury since he was snapped from existence by Thanos all those years ago. Of course, the Fury we saw during the events of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ was Talos the entire time.

The trailer of the upcoming ‘The Marvels’ movie also allowed us to see more of Nick Fury and his involvement in the fiasco related to Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. He was seen on the giant space station called S.A.B.R.E. in the trailer of ‘The Marvels’ before he returned to Earth to speak to Kamala Khan and her family regarding the situation with her connection to Danvers and Rambeau.

In the events of ‘Secret Invasion,’ we learned that Fury had been cooped up in space ever since he returned from the Blip and that he focused his attention more on overlooking the development of S.A.B.R.E. for the government. This means that the events of ‘The Marvels’ happen after ‘Secret Invasion’ because Fury is now more involved with the affairs of the planet instead of simply focusing on the space station project.

As such, there’s a good reason to believe that the events of ‘Secret Invasion’ will affect the events of ‘The Marvels’ as far as the storyline of Nick Fury is concerned. And there’s also a good chance that Fury will regain in ‘Secret Invasion’ the mojo that he lost due to what Thanos did in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ considering that he was seemingly back to his old self in the trailer of ‘The Marvels’ instead of acting like the defeated and brooding old man that ‘Secret Invasion’ portrays him to be.
